Prague-raised Emile Rafael says it was Tarkovsky’s post-apocalyptic Stalker that first inspired him to become a filmmaker. Mesmerized by the Russian auteur’s futuristic wasteland, Rafael still feels the pull of derelict buildings and places, despite the fact that—or perhaps because—there are numerous architects in the London-based filmmaker’s family. Rafael has shot numerous videos for stars including Katy B, X Ambassadors, Jamie N Commons and Stubborn Heart, and his NOWNESS film profiling writer Alan Moore was shortlisted for the D&AD Next Director Award.
